Q&A

What are the Keyblade Master Reports?
KMR is a chronicle of Kingdom Hearts games mainly concerned with their game mechanics, and exploiting them. Playthroughs hosted on KMR are intended to shed light on how the games work, what skillful play looks like and possibly dispel some misconceptions in the process. Although the main focus is on game mechanics, attention is also given to narrative analysis.

Who writes for KMR?
The sole author is Touya, who also authors Cardfight Pro and the Gerseym Waterway as well as Shadow Rush.

Why are you doing this?
As a child who was around nine or ten when the first Kingdom Hearts came out, I aspired to become a Keyblade Master, but obviously that's an impossible dream. This is as near as I can approximate to achieving that dream.

With the HD 1.5 ReMIX being released in my country this September, I really wanted to write for that as it will finally bring to me the Final Mix that I was in awe of around 2003 and thought would never come over, but there's still time before it comes out and I need to get around to replacing my PS3's video cable. Since my original copy of Kingdom Hearts is on its last legs as things stand, I figured that it would be appropriate to give it a proper send-off with one last Expert Mode playthrough. Playing Kingdom Hearts has been a yearly thing for me, there are a lot of friends and dear memories connected to the game, and I want to share those experiences with the world. So before I get to KHHD, I'm going to cover the original Kingdom Hearts. Any excuse to play Kingdom Hearts one more time is a good one!

Another motivating factor is that I have a wealth of experience with the series, while I'm more than a little alienated from the other games I played as a kid. I threw my hands up and admitted I didn't have the head for competitive Pokemon years ago, I'm still puzzling my way through BW after missing out on HGSS and am nowhere near ready for XY, I came into competitive Battle Network/Star Force when they were already dead, and I've been blocked off from finishing almost every Zelda game that I've played by one boss or another, but I'm really good at Kingdom Hearts.

What kind of format can I expect?
Because the focus is on game mechanics and technique, there's going to be a lot of screenshots to act as like a visual walkthrough. The tone is much more informal than Cardfight Pro; this site is like my vacation home. Don't expect any MLA formatting. I would like to do video for some of the boss fights, but I'm inexperienced with my equipment and it would probably be best to wait for HD to come out for those fights. Following a computer upgrade, I'm now much better equipped to be doing these and will have videos for boss fights. Expect shenanigans where possible.

Because of how time consuming it is to manage CFPro, the Keyblade Master Reports operate on a zero commitment policy, and I have no set schedule for updating. In general I like a once per week basis for video game blogs.

Acknowledgements.
Zarathustra, who laid a lot of the groundwork back in 2002 with his Level Information GameFAQs guide, and also Falconesque who built on that with his Statistics Guide in 2011. These two have put out some very good reference materials that I've come to rely on. Having the numbers handy in a table is much better than having to refer to loose notes.

Blackbeltbobman; we've never actually met or spoken to one another, but some of his posts prompted me to reexamine how Kingdom Hearts works on the inside.

Yoko Shimomura, whose music kept me going throughout the whole series, even through KHII at the bleakest of times.

My sister Alyssa, who bought me the original Kingdom Hearts as a birthday gift all those years ago. I wouldn't be writing KMR if not for her.
